The chance to buy a Tasmanian island almost does not exist. But one has hit the market today.
Fulham Island in Dunalley is for sale “By offer” with Elders Commercial.
Records show it is owned by hotelier and property mogul James Koh.
Elders Tasmania head of real estate Scott Newton described the opportunity as scarce, with only about a dozen freehold islands available for purchase in Tasmania.
Mr Newton said the purchaser of Fulham Island will own the whole island, not just part of it.
“There is an exclusivity and scarcity factor that comes with a private island,” he said.
“It is accessible to Hobart, either by driving or by helicopter from Hobart Airport.
“One advantage of this island is the significant infrastructure investment with its jetty and boat ramp – this is not something found on all Tasmanian islands.
“It makes accessing the island a breeze.”

Mr Newton said Fulham Island is a blank canvas.
He said the zoning is rural, and any development would be subject to council approval.
“It is a bird habitat; there is great environmental value that will need to be respected and sensitive to its surroundings,” he said.
The 9.71ha island is within the Sloping Island Group, near the Tasman and Forestier peninsulas.
Dunalley is about 56km from Hobart City.
Local birdlife includes little penguins, shearwater and oyster catcher.

Mr Newton said his vendor is selling simply because it is surplus to requirements.
“It was purchased with the view to developing a private residence, but now other international interests have taken priority,” he said.
“As the island is such a prestigious property, we are expecting global inquiry.
“There is no doubt that there will be international interest in Fulham Island as has been the case with the other islands we have recently marketed.
“It leans into Tasmania’s clean green brand, which is highly attractive to people from all over the world.”
